Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power (CEL&P) is an enterprise owned by
The City of Crawfordsville existing to provide economic benefits to our customers and
the municipality. CEL&P is dedicated to supplying and delivering affordable and
reliable electric services to the residents, businesses, and industries of the city and
surrounding area. CEL&P will investigate additional services and seek new
customers outside the Crawfordsville area in order to enhance the benefits and
add value to all of their customers and owners.
CEL&P is governed and managed by local people, not stockholders all over the
world. The Utility Service Board is made of five individuals appointed by
the Mayor and
City Council in Crawfordsville. They are a policy making board. They
also oversee the financial affairs of the utility, including any major expansion or
expenditures like a new substation.
Public Power systems belong to the people they serve. In Crawfordsville,
the owners are the users of Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power. CEL&P teamed up with its customers-owners, is one of
this community's greatest assets. Together we provide an essential service at
reasonable rates, designed to meet the special needs of our community. Community ownership of electric service is local people working together to
meet local needs, such as energy conservation, environmental concerns,
economic development, and other services of local government.
