Parks & Recreation
The Crawfordsville Parks & Recreation Department strives to provide
quality park and recreation facilities and services in an effort to meet the
leisure needs of citizens. The community shall benefit...
Socially - with programs that develop character in youth;
allow the elderly and handicapped to maintain independent living, provide
entertainment, education, and positive social environments;
Physically - with programs that improve one's level of
physical fitness, and overall sense of of well-being;
Environmentally - by being pedestrian and biker friendly;
by preserving natural areas for the benefit of native plants and animals; by
protecting open green spaces;
Economically - by increasing tourism; by providing
opportunities for citizens to improve their health and consequently their
productivity and longevity; by creating a quality of life that attracts
prospective citizens , business, and industry.
The Crawfordsville Park and Rec. Dept. is a proud supporter of the Character
Counts! organization. The philosophies of this coalition, which include the six
pillars of character, Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring
and Citizenship, are demonstrated here by our quarterly Employee of Character
award, as well as our implementation of the Pursuing Victory With Honor
program in our sports leagues. We believe it is important to reinforce these traits
in our schools, on the playing field, on the job and in our homes.
The Crawfordsville Park and Recreation Dept. staff and board members would
like to thank the various businesses, organizations, and individuals who support
our programs and projects throughout the year. If you volunteered to coach a
softball team, a coach-pitch team, flag football, or the like, we appreciate the
many hours you gave to provide a positive athletic experience for the children.
Maybe you or your group volunteered to plant flowers, pick up litter, or paint
benches, we appreciate your hard work. Maybe your business donated financial
support or door prizes for one of our many special events, such the Pie Run on
the Sugar Creek Trail, or the Fourth of July Fireworks we thank-you. Maybe
you helped seniors and low-income individuals file their income taxes, thank-you.
Thank-you to the Montgomery County Community Foundation for gifts that have
provided educational & social opportunities to the Blind Club, have supported
many youth programs including Youth Theater & Fun Club, as well as match
money for Sunshine Van vehicles. Finally, thank you to MUFFY who provides a
significant portion of the operational budget for the Sunshine Van Program. You
each deserve an A+ in citizenship!
