HEALTH DEPARTMENT WORKING WITH ACUITY BRANDS LIGHTING
TO MANAGE CLUSTER OF CONFIRMED CASES

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Montgomery County Health Department (MCHD), in cooperation with the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), screened employees from Acuity Brands Lighting, Inc. following a cluster of positive cases in two production departments.

Select employees were screened for COVID-19 infection on Thursday, May 21, 2020. The ISDH has reported that, of the 144 employees screened, 15 were found to be positive for COVID-19. Positive employees have been notified and placed in isolation. Close contacts to infected patients have been identified by contact tracers from the ISDH and have been quarantined. Close contacts in the workplace have been identified and placed in quarantine by officials from Acuity Brands and the MCHD.

The Montgomery County Health Department has been working in conjunction with Acuity Brands after a number of cases over a period of a few weeks were linked with the facility among other commonalities.

“We have been working closely with the facility’s Human Resources and medical staff since the first case was identified,” said Amber Reed, Montgomery County Health Department Administrator. “Acuity has been very cooperative and proactive in helping to identify close work contacts and applying quarantining protocols for employees.”

The MCHD will continue to work with Acuity to monitor and mitigate the infection within the facility and to help decrease transmission in the community. Social exposures outside of the workplace appear to have contributed to the cluster. Citizens are reminded that, even though we can gather in larger groups under Phase 3 of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s “Back on Track” plan, it’s important to still maintain six feet of distance in accordance with CDC social distancing guidelines.
